Men's Rowing Wraps Up Fall Racing Season
Crew
This weekend the men's rowing team traveled to Philadelphia, PA to compete in two separate regattas. The Frostbite Regatta, which was held on Saturday, featured a 2000m course. In Sunday's Braxton Regatta, crews raced on a 1500m course. In both regattas crews were placed in pre-determined finals. Placement in these finals was based on a crew's past race times, and was an attempt on the part of the regatta planners to put the most competitive boats in the main finals.

On Saturday, Colgate raced in four events. In Final B of the men's frosh/novice four, coxswain May Bayer (Boston, Mass.) and rowers Gavin Henriquez (Northport, N.Y.), Ben Jones (Bryn Mawr, Pa.), Kenley Unruh (Ellensberg, Wash.), and Rob Bickhart (Villanova, N.Y.) gained top honors. The boat won easily, beating out their nearest competitor, Lehigh, by fifty-three seconds, crossing the finish line with a time of 7:15.11.

The Raiders took another top three finish in the men's four Final C event. First place Philadelphia University clocked a time of 7:18.01, one second faster than Colgate, which was the next crew to finish. In the boat were coxswain Kristen Stonehill (Litchfield, Conn.), Marc Cassone (Plattsburgh, N.Y.), Matt Woodrow (Glenview, Ill.), Unruh, and Adam Kobayashi (Brewster, N.Y.).

For the freshman/novice 8+ event, coxswain Bayer and rowers T.J. Ake (Chatham, N.J.), Jordan Sage (Las Vegas, N.Y.), Sebastian Kooyman (Bedford, N.Y.), Matt Harnisch (Bell Harbor, N.Y.), J.P. Martinez (Newark, N.Y), John Raffensperger (Altamont, N.Y.), Micah Belzberg (Calgary, Alberta), and David Long (Conesus, N.Y.), came in fifth place with a time of 7:36.44. Delaware University won the event, posting a 6:31.60.

Colgate's final event of the day was the varsity eight final. The Raiders, with cox Christopher Monterosso (Staten Island, N.Y.) rowers Kurt Miller (Devon, Pa.), Sam Walker (Pittsburgh, Pa.), Parker Paulin (Forsyth, Ill.), Edward Gastel (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), Willie Fox (New Canaan, Conn.), Oliver Jensen (Geneva, Switzerland), Paul Vogelsang (Buffalo, N.Y.), and Peter Leahey (Mercer Island, Wash.) finished fifth with a time of 6:25.41. On Sunday, the Raiders competed in three events. In the first event, the frosh/novice 8+ final, cox Bayer and rowers Ake, Sage, Kooyman, Harnisch, Martinez, Raffensperger, Belzberg, and Long were in the fourth boat to cross the finish line with a time of 6:02.72. The winning time was 5.22.62, posted by Ithaca College's boat A.

Colgate's only medal for the day came in the JV 8+ event. The Raiders won the race with a time of 4:57.57, beating out second place Drexel University by four seconds. In the boat were coxswain Stonehill, Henriquez, Kobayashi, Unruh, Woodrow, Cassone, Raffensberger, Jones, and Bickhart.
