HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/27/09) – Colgate head basketball coach Emmett Davis has announced that JP Clark has been hired as volunteer Director of Basketball Operations.
“JP comes to Colgate with an incredible basketball coaching pedigree. His passion for the game and for coaching was obvious during his interview, stated Davis “I expect him to hit the ground running and be a terrific asset to our program.”
JP Clark joins the Colgate staff from the University of Central Florida where he served as a Graduate Assistant for the early part of this season before being hired at Colgate. Prior to his stint at UCF, he served as the Assistant Basketball Coach at NCAA Division II Flagler College for one year. His responsibilities included recruiting, individual player development, scouting, video coordinating and travel arrangements.
Clark comes from a coaching family; his grandfather was a legendary coach at the University of Central Florida where he compiled a record of 274-89. Clark’s dad, Bo played at UCF for his father where he was a three time All American and is UCF’s all time leading scorer. Bo is in his 24th year as the head coach at Flagler College where he has amassed over 400 wins.
Clark went to Nease High School in Saint Augustine, Florida. As a senior, he averaged 24 points per game while leading the team to a district championship. One of his teammates at Nease was Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow. Clark played basketball for his father at Flagler College for four years, averaging 11 points per game as a sophomore before a knee injury sidelined him for his career and gave him a jump start into coaching. Clark graduated from Flagler College with a degree in Communication, and is currently working on his Masters in Coaching.
As Colgate’s Director of Basketball Operations, Clark will be responsible for numerous administrative duties including coordinating team travel and meals, overseeing film exchange for opponent scouting, assisting in monitoring the academic support program, and organization of the recruiting database.
