Kathy Brawn Shares Her Teaching Skills with Faculty

HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/28/09) – Colgate University head women’s soccer coach Kathy Brawn spoke to over 60 faculty members in a one hour long lecture entitled, “Thinking On Your Feet: Creating the best game strategy through the use of technology, knowledge, and emotional intelligence.” 

Coach Brawn presented an overview of the many different aspects that go into preparing an elite team to compete at the highest level both mentally and physically.  She discussed the use and relevance of visual technology to help her team acquire the knowledge, skill, and technique necessary to compete on a national scale.  Coach Brawn also presented on the many different strategies she has had to implement and utilize over the course of her season to improve the overall team and individual performance elevating their play to that of an elite level.   She spoke about her approach to teaching the complex game of soccer, as well as adapting to the changing needs of today’s student-athletes. 

Brawn is in her 19th season and is the winningest coach in the history of the women’s soccer program.  Under her tutelage, her teams have won 10 conference championships and earned four trips to the NCAA tournament.  She coached the only women’s program in school history to go beyond the NCAA first round by beating the University of Arizona.  She was voted Regional Coach of the Year, Colgate Coach of the Year, and Patriot League Coach of the Year numerous times.  Prior to Colgate, she coached at Yale, Princeton, and Cornell respectively. 

Coach Brawn’s squad plays Bucknell on Saturday, October 31 at 3:30pm.  A win will secure Colgate as the top seed and host of the Patriot League Tournament.
