Colgate Field Hockey Falls at Lehigh

BETHLEHEM, PA. (10/3/09) – Laura Denenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) posted her fifth goal of the year, but it wasn’t enough as Lehigh downed Colgate 4-1 in a Patriot League field hockey match up Saturday morning.
The Mountain Hawks, now 4-5 overall and 1-0 in league play, got all it would need in the opening half with a pair of goals. Taryn Hartzell converted a penalty stroke at 19:47 to give Lehigh the lead for good at 1-0. Morgan Christopher upped the score to 2-0 at 29:30.
Down 3-0, Colgate solved Lilia Stefaniwski as Denenga drove the ball short side after taking a feed from Mika Ella-Tang (Port of Spain, Trinidad) and put it into the cage at 47:55. Lindsey Smith closed the game scoring at 55:44 for Lehigh.
The Mountain Hawks out shot Colgate 23-11. Sarah Pedersen (State College, Pa.) saved 10 shots for the Raiders.
The Raiders, now 1-10 overall and 0-1 in league play, return to action Tuesday afternoon as it travels to face Cornell. Game time is set for 4 p.m. in Ithaca.
