CENTER VALLEY, PA. – Both Jeff Leach (New Canaan, Conn.) and Chris Ross (Hurst, Texas) were named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District Second team, representing the Colgate men’s soccer team.
Leach, a junior midfielder currently is tied for fourth on the team in points with eight, having two goals and four assists. Last season, Leach was a second-team all-Patriot league selection and was named to the league’s academic honor roll.
An economics major, Leach is presently sporting a 3.75 grade point average and is part of the Colgate University athletic leadership academy that helps build team chemistry.
Tied with Leach on the team in points, Ross has also tallied two goals and four assists for the Raiders in his senior year. The three-year starter earned first-team all-Patriot league honors last season and has been named to the league’s academic honor roll all three years.
Ross, who is also an economics major, currently has a 3.37 GPA. Ross has earned the Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence three semesters and part of the Raider Academic Honor Roll five times.
Only Colgate and Bucknell had multiple student-athletes named to the District 1 team. In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average at his/her current institution. They must also have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s games.
