CENTER VALLEY, PA.(11/3/09) – While the 2009 season came to a close for the Colgate Raiders, three members of its roster received all-Patriot League honors, as the post season awards were announced Tuesday afternoon.
Katelyn Nerbonne (Bow, N.H.) garnered first team accolades, while Mika Ella-Tang (Port of Spain, Trinidad) and Laura Denenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) were honored as second team selections.
“We are very happy to have three players representing Colgate on the all-league team,” said Colgate head coach Cathy Foto. “Katelyn, Mika and Laura have been consistent performers for us all season.
“Laura is an explosive offensive player and her offensive contributions were always noticeable,” continued Foto. “Katelyn and Mika have worked very hard as our senior co-captains to guide our young team and we are thrilled to have them recognized for their efforts. They are tremendous leaders on and off the field and have made numerous contributions to our program over their four years at Colgate.”
Nerbonne currently ranks tied for seventh in the league standings with 20 points on seven goals and six assists. The senior is also among the league leaders in goals and assists. Nerbonne closed her collegiate career with 65 points, which ranks in a tie for fourth on the all-time Colgate point list. She garnered second team all-conference mention her junior season and was named the 2006 Patriot League Freshman of the Year.
Like Nerbonne, Denenga was among the league leaders in goals and points. The junior finished with 17 points on seven goals and three helpers. Her 1.06 point per game average is ninth in the league and she is tied for eighth with 0.44 goals her contest. This marks the second consecutive year Denenga has received second team accolades.
Ella-Tang completed her final year of eligibility among the all-time leaders in Colgate history in assists. The senior’s six assists on the season, which currently ranks in a tie for fifth among Patriot League charts, moved her into sixth on the all-time list.
