HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/2/09) - The Colgate women’s soccer team had four student-athletes named to this season’s All-Patriot League Teams while freshman goalkeeper Ashley Walsh (Cicero, N.Y.) earned one of the conference’s four major awards.
Senior midfielder Jillian Arnault (Clay, N.Y.) and junior Calista Victor (Seattle, Wash.) were both named to the First-Team, while senior defender Liz Polido ( Stow,Mass.) and freshman forward Jillian Kinter (Newburyport, Mass.) earned the Second-Team All-League nod. Walsh was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Year.
The first-team selection is the second time in as many years for Arnault who is tied for second in scoring on Colgate’s squad with seven points from three goals and an assist. Victor, who was named to the second-team last year, has helped lead a back field that allowed just 0.83 goals against average this year. The junior also picked up one assist this season and was named Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week once.
Polido makes her second appearance on the All-League second-team. The senior defender has started in all 18 games for the Raiders this season, helping lead the Colgate defense on and off the field. Kinter is the Raiders only freshman selection to an All-League team. The rookie forward leads Colgate in scoring this season with 11 points off of four goals and three assists and has been named Rookie of the Week once this year.
Walsh, who has the Raiders in goal all season with an overall record of 9-6-3 leads the conference in saves (122) and saves per game (6.78), and is third in goals against average (0.84). She also has the highest NCAA save percentage ranking of any Patriot League goalkeeper coming in tenth nationally with a save percentage of .884. The rookie has posted six shutouts this season and has been named Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week once and Rookie of the Week three times.
As the #1 seed, the Raiders will host the Patriot League Tournament this weekend. Colgate will face fourth-seeded Navy on Friday, Nov. 6th at 5 p.m. while the 7:30 p.m. game will feature second-seeded American against third-seeded Bucknell. All games will take place on Van Doren Field.
