EASTON, Pa. (11/6/09) – Kaylee Dougherty (Landisville, Pa.) tallied a season-high 13 kills as Colgate rallied from a set down to defeat Lafayette 22-25, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20 in Patriot League volleyball action, Friday evening.
Colgate, which improved to 13-11 overall, posted its fourth victory in a row and its seventh win in its eight matches. The Raiders also received 11 kills from Logan Keala (Kaneohe, Hawaii) and nine from Casey Ritt (Colorado Springs, Colo.) in the fifth-consecutive decision over the Leopards. Freshman Michelle McCarthy (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) tallied a career-high four kills in five swings.
After dropping the first set, Colgate clicked on all cylinders in the second game by hitting .414 (13-1-29). The Raiders showed a strong serve game with 10 aces on the evening, three by Devon Applegate (Davidson, N.C.). The junior, who ranks second in the league in digs per set, finished with a match-high 15.
Colgate tallied nine team blocks in the victory, four by setter Blaire Safir (Oakland, Calif.). The sophomore also added 18 assists, while senior setter Meghan Fanta (Hillsboro, Wisc.) dished out 26 to move within 86 assists of sixth on the all-time Patriot League charts.
Lafayette, which dropped to 12-12 overall and 3-8 in league play, wa sled by Katrina Racibarskas’ 13 kills.
The Raiders return to action, Saturday afternoon as it plays its last regular season road contest at Lehigh. Match time is set for 4 p.m.
