Dougherty Named Patriot League Volleyball Player of the Week
Kaylee Dougherty was named the player of the week for the first time in her career.

CENTER VALLEY, PA. (11/9/09) – Following a pair of outstanding performances last weekend in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Colgate’s Kaylee Dougherty (Landisville, Pa.) was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for the first time in her career, it was announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
The sophomore had a happy homecoming as Colgate continued its winning ways with a pair of victories over Lafayette and Lehigh. In the opening match, she posted 13 kills, one short of her career high, and tallied a .550 hitting efficiency as the Raiders downed Lafayette in four sets. The following night, she notched her ninth match of 10 or more kills with a 12-kill effort in a five-set victory over Lehigh.
“Kaylee played an instrumental part in our success this past weekend,” said Colgate head coach Ryan Baker. “Offensively, she was very aggressive and smart. She made herself available on every point and our setters connected with her throughout the weekend. She is truly deserving of this recognition.”
For the weekend, Dougherty hit .500 with 25 kills in 42 swings (only four errors) and tallied five blocks as Colgate improved to 14-11 overall and 10-2 in Patriot League action.
During the five match win streak, Dougherty remains the hottest player on the roster as far as hitting percentage. In her last four outings, she has posted 43 kills in her last 71 attacks for a .535 hitting percentage. She also has posted 11 blocks during this recent stretch.
Dougherty becomes only the second Raider to gain player of the week accolades in 2009. On October 12, Kaleigh Durket (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) was honored with the same award following her performances against Syracuse and Bucknell.
The Raiders close the regular-season at home this weekend with a pair of important matches that could determine who hosts the 2009 Patriot League Tournament. Friday evening, Colgate hosts American in a match-up between two teams that have already clinched a spot in the tournament. Match time is set for 7 p.m. at Cotterell Court. The Raiders then will host Senior Day, Saturday afternoon when Navy comes calling. The match is set for a 4 p.m. start.
