PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (4/1/09) - The Colgate University women’s rowing team started their spring season this past weekend at the Murphy Cup in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Raiders entered two boats in the race, one in the JV 8+ race and one in the Varsity 8+. In the JV 8+, Colgate started off in the first lane of the third heat. The race featured three heats of five boats each. The Raiders finished fifth in their heat and 12th among the 15 boats with a time of 7:26.90. In the boat for Colgate was Meredith Buerger (Menlo Park, Calif.), Laura Crawford (Allentown, N.J.), Lauren Davis (Thornhill, Ont.), Shannon Jackson (Roswell, Ga.), Kirsten Kellstrom (Chatham, N.J.), Katherine Johnescu (York, Pa.), Symone Jackson (Detroit, Mich.), Melissa Glasser (Sands Point, N.Y.) and Jillian Anderson (East Walpole, N.Y.).
The Varsity 8+ race consisted of six boats each in four heats. The Raiders finished 3rd in the first heat and 15th overall out of 24 boats, with a time of 7:01.04. Leading the way for the Raiders were Meredith Remmer (Oakdale, N.Y.), Annabell Glass (Vancouver, B.C.), Vicky Hulit (Rye, N.Y.), Sarah Kruse (Glen Ridge, N.J.), Lauren Schmetterling (Moorestown, N.J.), Kalin Hennegan (Littleton, Colo.), Elspeth Monigle (Denver, Colo.), Britt Woodbury (Winnetka, Ill.) and Allison Patchen (Pittsford, N.Y.).
Up next for the Raiders is the George Washington Invitational Regatta, April 10 in Washington D.C. set on the Potomac River.
