HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/15/09) - The Colgate women’s tennis team downed Hamilton College, 6-1, in a non-conference match-up on Tuesday afternoon at the J.W. Abrahamson Memorial Courts.
"It was nice to see our seniors go out with a win on senior day,” stated head coach Bobby Pennington. “It was an added bonus to be able to play our first outdoor match this spring"
The Raiders won the doubles point after Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Cameron Williams (Winnetka, Ill.) defeated Laura Brantley and Ashley Pardoe, 8-3, at first doubles, followed by an 8-1 win at third doubles by Alexandra Erickson (Minnetonka, Minn.) and Cameron Thaney (Rochester, N.Y.) against Caroline Greenberg and Maile Thayer.
In singles action, Colgate won five of the six matches starting with a win at the No. 1 spot as DeRose downed Brantley, 6-3, 6-1. Seniors Erin Fenn (Evanston, Ill.) and Thaney won their final career home matches as Fenn defeated Pardoe, 6-4, 6-4, at third singles and Thaney downed Hannah Weisman, 6-0, 6-1, at fifth singles. In the fourth singles spot, Williams beat out Greenberg, 6-3, 6-3, while Jackie Stimmel (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) defeated Thayer in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at sixth singles.
The Raiders will next face Binghamton on Wednesday April, 15 at 3:30 p.m. followed by a week off before heading to Lewisburg, Pa. for the Patriot League Tournament starting on April 24.
