BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (4/17/06) - The Colgate women’s tennis teams dropped their final regular season match on Wednesday afternoon, falling 6-0, to Binghamton.
The Bearcats swept the Raiders in doubles play, with Jillian Santos and Lauren Bates downing Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.) and Cameron Williams (Winnetka, Ill.), 8-0, in first doubles while Yulia Smirnova and Emma Leibowicz defeated Stephanie Brown (Mendham, N.J.) and Alexandra Erickson (Minnetonka, Minn.), 8-6, at second doubles.
In singles action, DeRose fell to Bates 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 1 spot, while Erickson was downed by Santos in straight sets at the second singles position. Williams was upset by Smirnova, 6-3, 6-1 at third singles. At fourth singles, Brown was defeated 7-5, 6-2, by Marina Bykovskaya while Danyelle Shapiro dropped Jen Marquit (Colorado Springs, Colo.), 6-0, 6-0, at sixth singles.
The Raiders will next compete at the Patriot League Tournament, April 24-26 in Lewisburg, Pa.
