Women's Tennis Set for Patriot League Championships

HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/23/09) - The Colgate University women’s tennis team will look to claim the Patriot League title this weekend at the 2009 Patriot League Women’s Tennis Championships at Bucknell’s Varsity Tennis Courts in Lewisburg, Pa.
The three-day event starts Friday morning with the Raiders kicking off the tournament at 10 a.m. as the No. 5 seed taking on No. 4 Holy Cross. No. 3 Lehigh will face No. 6 Lafayette in the second quarterfinal match on Friday. No. 1 seed Army and No. 2 Bucknell both received byes for the first round of play.
The winner of the Colgate/Holy Cross match-up will face Army in the semifinal round on Saturday morning. Current defending champ, Army, has won the past five consecutive titles. The Championship game will take place on Sunday at noon.
The Raiders finished the regular season 1-3 in the conference and 7-12 overall. Leading Colgate will be senior Elise DeRose (Williamsville, N.Y.) at first singles. Joining DeRose for first doubles is junior Cameron Williams (Winnetka, Ill.).
