HAMILTON, N.Y. (4/30/09) — The Colgate University men’s track and field team will hit the road to Army this weekend to compete in the Patriot League Championships on May 1-3. The Raiders finished fifth in last year’s championship meet.
Colgate was picked to finish seventh overall in the preseason poll of coaches and sports information directors. The field events for the women will start at 12 p.m., while the heptathlon kicks off at 12:20 p.m., and the running events start at 2:30 p.m.
The Raiders are led by sophomore Ed Sheridan (Phillipsburg, N.J.) who will pace the distance runners in the 10,000-meter run. He owns the fourth fastest 10k in the conference, finishing the 6.2 miles in 31.02.33 at the Bison Outdoor Classic.
In the hurdles, Colgate will have junior Phil Natoli (Fayetteville, N.Y.) competing in the 400-meter hurdles. Natoli is ranked fifth in the conference and has shown continued improvement over the course of the season. Natoli recently ran a personal-best time of 54.45 in the 400m hurdles at Holy Cross.
In the relays, Colgate heads to Army with the fourth and fifth fastest times in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.
A selection of runners will continue their season the following weekend at the IC4A Championship at Princeton.
