Tarallo Wins 10K Title in Day One of the Patriot League Championship

WEST POINT, N.Y. (5/1/09)— Colgate University sophomore Julie Tarallo (Easton, Mass) won the 10,000-meter run title with a record-setting performance in the first day of competition at the Patriot League Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship at Army. 

Tarallo who entered the day with the fourth fastest time in Patriot League, ran the 6.2 miles in a personal-record time of 36:55.25. Tarallo’s personal-best performance is an ECAC qualifying time and the second fastest time in school history. She is only the second Colgate runner to break the 37 minute mark.
 
Senior Curry Knox (Seattle, Wash.) and sophomore Michele Miller (Silver Spring, Md.) led the way in sprint event preliminaries on day one. Both Knox and Miller qualified for the finals in their respective events.
 
Knox kicked off the day with a first-place showing in the 100-meter dash. She clocked in at 12.25. Knox followed that up with a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles. She covered the 100-meter stretch of the track in 14.63. She finished the day tied for first in the 200-meter dash with Tiffany Reid of Holy Cross who ran a time of 25.00.
 
Miller also competed in the 200-meter dash finishing third with a time of 25.65.
 
The Raiders 4x800-meter relay closed the night with a time of 9:50.09, the fifth place showing garnered two points for the team.
 
Colgate resumes competition tomorrow with the heptathlon starting at 9 a.m., and the running events beginning at 10:45 a.m.
