HAMILTON, N.Y. (5/5/09) – Six members of the Colgate softball team have been named to the 2009 all-Patriot League team, which was announced on Tuesday.
Leading the way for the Raiders were first team selections senior outfielder Calla Yee (Salinas, CA) and senior utility player Erin Gomez (Lawrenceville, NJ). Yee is receiving first team honors for the second time in her career. She was previously named to the first team as a sophomore in 2007. Yee is currently batting .326 with 11 RBI and 18 stolen bases. Gomez, who is making her first appearance on the squad, is hitting .350 with seven home runs and 24 RBI.
Colgate had four second team selections led by three-time honoree Tiana Tyeskey (Granite Bay, CA). The senior second baseman is batting .323 with four home runs and a team-high 32 RBI. She is joined on the second team by first time selections, sophomore pitcher Jesse McCarrick (Oak Hill, VA), freshman outfielder Stephanie Hartquist (Homer, NY) and junior designated player Amanda Eccleston (Roseville, CA). McCarrick is 11-4 with a 2.67 ERA, while Hartquist is hitting .269 with one home run and 19 RBI, and Eccleston is batting .333 with 24 RBI and two home runs.
Colgate (25-16) is seeded second in the Patriot League Tournament which gets underway on Thursday at Lehigh University’s Kaufman Field. The Raiders will play third-seeded Bucknell at 4 p.m. in the second game of the double-elimination tournament. Top-seeded Lehigh hosts fourth-seeded Lafayette at 2 p.m.
The winner of the Patriot League Tournament advances to the NCAA Division I Tournament with an automatic bid.
