BETHLEHEM, PA (5/7/09) – The Colgate softball team (25-16) will be making its 11th appearance in the Patriot League Tournament in the last 12 seasons under head coach Vickie Sax, when the Raiders play Bucknell today in the opening round of the double-elimination tournament at 4 p.m.
During the regular season, Colgate, seeded second, swept its four-game series against third-seeded Bucknell. Top-seeded Lehigh plays fourth-seeded Lafayette at 2 p.m.
Heading into the tournament, Colgate has six players batting .300 or better. They are Melissa Babb-Renta (.420), Erin Gomez (.350), Amanda Eccleston (.333), Calla Yee (.326), Tiana Tyeskey (.323) and Ashley Rowe (.313).
Colgate’s top pitcher is Jesse McCarrick with an 11-4 record and 2.67 ERA.
The Raiders will be seeking their fourth Patriot League title with previous championships in 1999, 2003 and 2007. The winner of the Patriot League Tournament receives an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
