HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/13/09) - The Colgate University men’s golf team placed first at the annual Colgate Invitational held at Seven Oaks Golf Club this past weekend, Sept. 12-13th.
The Raiders were in the lead after Saturday’s round with a score total of 295. On Sunday, the men earned second place for the day with a total of 305, finishing with a two-day total of 600 for the title. The men last won the Colgate Invitational back in 2007.
Just behind Colgate was fellow Patriot League opponent, Bucknell, falling one stroke short of the win with a 601 (300-301). Laval rounded out the top three finishers with a two-day total of 606 (300-306).
Bucknell’s Brian Bartow was the top individual competitor closing out the invitational with a total score of 144 (73-71). Lafayette’s Rob Robertson came in second place, just two strokes behind Bartow with a 146 (71-75).
Ben Jessen (West Simsbury, Conn.) and Josh Spellman (Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) were Colgate’s top finishers tied in third place with a 148. Jessen, who was tied for first place heading into Sunday’s action with a 71, shot a 77 today. Spellman shot a 75 on Saturday, improving his play on Sunday shooting one over-par with a score of 73. Bucknell’s Andrew Cohen, Fordham’s Jason Del Rosso and Laval’s Julieu Proulx also finished tied in third place.
Colgate fielded two teams out of the nine with the “Maroon” team claiming first place with the score of 600, while the “White” team closed out the tournament with a score total of 645 (318-327).
The Raiders will be back in action this upcoming weekend, Sept. 18-19th when they travel to play in the Bucknell Invitational in Lewisburg, Pa.
