Women's Cross Country Release #2: Raiders Host Colgate Invitational

The Colgate University women's cross country team continues on home soil Saturday, Sept. 19, hosting the Colgate Invitational. The women's race is set to start at 9:45 a.m.

LAST OUTING
The Raiders finished second as a team at the Harry Lang Invitational, placing three harriers in the top 10. Colgate took three of the top-10 spots and seven of the top-17 on its way to scoring 44 points for the second place finish in the 4200-meter race. Sophomore Elise DeRoo (Newtown, Conn.) brought home the individual title with the second best time ever recorded at the meet. DeRoo crossed the line in 16:09, just one second behind the course record posted by junior Stacey Marion (West Simsbury, Conn.) in 2007.
Senior Emily Oliver (Annapolis, Md.) was next across the line in 16:58. Junior Julie Tarallo (Easton, Mass.) along with sophomore Chelsea Burns (Seattle, Wash.) rounded out the top four, hitting the tape in 17:03 and 17:11, respectively.
Sophomore Allie Bodack (Short Hills, N.J.) clocked in at 17:21 and freshman Sarah Cable (Geneva, Ill.) came in at 17:22 to round out Colgate’s top six runners.

2009 HONORS
Elise DeRoo was named the Patriot League Female Runner of the Week following her performance at the Harry Lang Invitational. This is the first cross-country weekly award this season for the Raiders.

THE NARDELLI FILE
The 2009 Patriot League Women’s Coach of the Year and 2000 Patriot League Men's Coach of the Year, Laura Nardelli, is in her 12th season as the head coach of the women's track and field program, and her eighth season as the head women's cross country coach at Colgate University.
Nardelli coached both the men's and women's track and field teams at Colgate before taking over as the women's cross country and track and field coach in 2001.
In 2007, Nardelli coached two cross country members to first-team all-Patriot League recognition as Stacey Marion '11 became the first rookie runner in history to also claim the league title, and Elizabeth Kennedy '08 finished fourth. Kennedy later took the ECAC title and went on garner NCAA All-Region honors, as she led the team to an all-time high 12th place finish in the Northeast. Nardelli’s cross-country teams have also been honored with the NCAA Division I All-Academic Team award for 2003, 2006, 2007, and 2008.
In 2009 Nardelli’s track & field squad earned 22 All-Patriot League titles, and Curry Knox was named Patriot League track athlete of the meet outdoors after she won the 100, 100 hurdles, and anchored the 4 x 100 relay, and took 2nd place in the 200. The team finished 3rd in the league, the highest finish since 1995.
In 2000, Nardelli was named the Patriot League Men's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the Year after leading the Raiders to a third-place team finish, their best since the first league meet in 1991. At Colgate, Nardelli has produced 115 All-Patriot League performers, seven Patriot League Athletes of the Meet, five ECAC medalists, and nine NCAA qualifiers.
