Men's Golf Ties for Tenth

Ithaca, NY (9/29/2009) - The Colgate men's golf team finished tied with St. Bonaventure for 10th place at the Cornell Invitational this past weekend. Fifteen teams participated in the tournament: Binghamton, Bucknell, Canisius, Colgate, Columbia, Cornell, Cornell B Lafayette, Lehigh, Ottawa, Rider, Siena, St. Bonaventure, University of Delaware, and Wagner. Due to the rain, the course became unplayable in time to finish the remaining 18 holes. As a result, the Invitational was shortened to 36 holes.
Colgate was led by Freshman Will Delano (New Canaan, CT.) who shot a 71 and 75 for a total of 146 which allowed him to finish tied for 4th place with Stephan Scialo of the University of Delaware.
Sophomore Ben Jessen (West Simsbury, CT.) and Senior Nick Parry (Washington, D.C.)finished tied for 50th place. Jenssen shot a 77 and 81 for a total of 158 and Parry shot an 81 and 77, for a total of 158 as well.
Senior David Ake (Topsfield, Mass.) shot a 78 and 81 for a total of 159 for a 56th place finish. Sophomore Josh Spellman (Woodcliff Lake, NJ.) shot an 83 in both rounds for a total of 166. Spellman finished in 71st place. Junior Neil Thomson (Sherborn, Mass.) recorded an 87 and 82 for a total of 169 for a finish in 73rd place.
Colgate had a team score of 621. Binghamton University won the Invitational with a team score of 590. Bucknell University finished second with a 597 followed by University of Delaware with a 599.
Bucknell’s Brian Bartow was the top individual scorer. He finished 1-under-par. Additionally, Bucknell’s Andrew Cohen and Binghamton’s Jake Katz finished tied for second place.
The Colgate Raiders will return to the green on October 10th-October 11th 2009 at the ECAC Championships in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey.
